Flap Sofa

“A Scandinavian sofa that has been dressed casually by an haute couture designer” says Jens Juul Eilersen about his new sofa, which combines the classic look with a relaxed Bohemian style and in this way serves as the perfect sofa for both.

Life can often be a matter of either-or. Also when choosing a sofa. Should you choose the classic Scandinavian look? Or should it be a fresh cushy ride with a Mediterranean temperament? Flap makes the choice easy: you can now get both! Flap has a foot in each camp making it the obvious uncompromising compromise. For you who will not settle, and for couples who want to meet both in the middle and on the sofa.

More flap’ed than normal
“In reality, Flap is classic box furniture with a slender back, thin arms and lots of cushions. The kind that has been seen before. But – what is well-known also delivers. Flap is much deeper than the box-sofas we have seen earlier in the Eilersen catalogue, and then it has the 1 centimetre wide flaps everywhere. Not just on the cushions, but also on the frame. It gives Flap a consummate audacity and a touch of Bohemian luxury” emphasizes Jens Juul Eilersen. “My idea was to design a Scandinavian sofa, which was a little more carefree; and that provided the inspiration for the flaps.”

It began as blue jeans with large flares
“Tight, straight lines are good to give sofas a clean and classic look. But it can also become so simple that it becomes expressionless. There must be little surprises. Details that get the sofa to step into character. Withdraw from mediocrity. Enter into consciousness. Therefore I tried to work with flaps on the frame and cushions. In the beginning, it almost ruffled, and it looked most of all like a pair of funky jeans with too much flare. It was too sloppy! The point is to find the balance, casualness and elegance meet in a style that one might well call Bohemian luxury. Flap is definitely directed toward people who love luxury and will not settle for less than the ultimate – even though they may live in a small house.”

Flap is naturally a modular sofa like most other models in the large Eilersen assortment. You can buy corner elements, middle elements and chaise longue modules – and add pillows ad libitum. The large solid body is 1 meter deep, and both back and armrests are just 3.2 cm. It provides plenty of room for a plethora of pillows, which along with the seat of down allows you to sink into a world of both comfort – and audacity.
