Mathieu Matégot designed the Nagasaki Dining Chair in 1954 and is his best-known piece so far. First exhibited at the 1954 Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, along with Arne Jacobsen’s Ant Chair (1952), the only few three-legged models. Made with perforated sheet metal, with both back and seat curved and arched, similar to the form of a saddle and overall effect is one of lightness. The Nagasaki Dining Chair is now part of a permanent collection at an internationally renowned, privately owned Vitra Design Museum.
