In the mountain town of Hakuba in Nagano, framed by the dramatic Japanese Alps, stands Hotel House of Finn Juhl, the first boutique hotel furnished entirely with Finn Juhl designs. The setting offers guests a rare blend of Danish modernism, Japanese craftsmanship, and alpine scenery, creating an experience where nature and design heighten one another.
Opened in 2016 after a complete renovation, the hotel features five rooms, each shaped around a signature Finn Juhl piece, including the Chieftain, Poet, Pelican, Japan, and France rooms. Black painted timber, paneled windows, exposed beams, and light wood floors form an understated backdrop that allows the sculptural furniture to take center stage. Across the lounge, dining areas, and bar, the organic curves and refined detailing characteristic of Finn Juhl’s work are given space to unfold.
Co founder Hans Henrik Sørensen describes the hotel as a warm, informal retreat where guests can enjoy local snacks and drinks, explore seasonal outdoor activities, and return to the comfort of down duvets, damask linen, and the gentle scent of teak. Hakuba’s deep powder snow, its Olympic heritage, and its surrounding countryside make it an ideal base for skiing, hiking, or discovery. The hotel grew from an initial idea of a private mountain cabin, evolving into a destination that reflects the brand’s long standing connection to Japan and its commitment to preserving Finn Juhl’s legacy across more than 50 global markets.
