Designed between 1949 and 1950 by Hans J. Wegner, the pp501/pp503 Round Chair is widely regarded as the pinnacle of Danish furniture design. Known simply as “The Round One,” it represents the pure essence of Danish craftsmanship, restraint, and material intelligence. This chair marked Wegner’s artistic breakthrough, expressing a design language entirely his own. The sculptural armrest is crafted from three carefully carved pieces of solid wood, sourced from mature shelter trees aged 150–200 years, chosen for their strength and character. With its quiet elegance and masterful construction, the Round Chair stands as Wegner’s magnum opus and a defining icon of modern Danish design.
