A sculptural modern classic, String Pira reinterprets a 1950s design icon into a flexible, architectural shelving system.

  • Design icon, inspired by the 1950s original
  • Dual function, room divider or wall shelving
  • Modular, reconfigurable layout

String Pira is a sculptural shelving system rooted in mid-century Swedish design and reinterpreted for contemporary living. Originally designed by Swedish architect Olle Pira in 1954 for the influential H55 design exhibition, the system has been thoughtfully revived and expanded for modern interiors. Its architectural form allows it to function not only as shelving, but also as a spatial element that can be mounted on walls or suspended from the ceiling as a room divider, making it ideal for open-plan homes and expressive interior layouts.

Constructed from lacquered steel shelves and extruded aluminium uprights, with optional organisers and cabinets in walnut or white oak, String Pira balances visual lightness with structural strength. The modular system can be configured and reconfigured to suit different spaces and uses, whether displaying books and objects in a living room, defining zones within a space, or creating a striking feature in an office or studio. With its bold yet refined presence, String Pira bridges heritage design and modern functionality in a single, adaptable system.
