The String System, designed by Nisse and Kajsa Strinning in 1949, is a true Scandinavian design icon and one of the world’s earliest flat-packed furniture systems, predating IKEA. Its minimalist, lightweight construction was created to be practical, affordable, and easy to assemble, and it remains just as relevant today. With modular shelves, cabinets, drawers, desks, and accessories, String adapts to any room and any lifestyle, allowing you to build and reconfigure storage over time rather than replacing entire furniture pieces.
Across the home, String proves its versatility and functionality. In the kitchen, it can be configured with shelves, hooks, and cabinets for cookbooks, utensils, and pantry storage. In the office, it becomes a complete workstation with desks, shelving for books and files, and organised storage units. In bedrooms, String can replace heavy wardrobes with a lighter, more open system, and it can also function as a floating bedside table with drawers and shelves. In living rooms, it can be used as a TV console or media wall, combining low storage for electronics with higher shelving for display.
