Product Care Instructions for Your Designer Furniture

Juul produces designers sofas and furniture that are built to last. With the right amount of care and maintenance, you can extend the life of your designer furniture. Please note that Juull’s product warranty is only valid when the proper care and maintenance have been adhered to as per the instruction guide.

PRODUCT CARE FOR WOOD SURFACES

 

Each tree is a living organism a part of nature, and would therefore always have differences in appearance. Knots in particular, are a characteristic of of a tree as a consequence of a branch growing naturally out of a trunk. It should not be considered as a defect.

 

General Care & Maintenance

 

  • Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight or heat source.
  • Avoid placing furniture in a room with fluctuating humidity.
  • Avoid placing or dragging decorative or sharp objects onto the surface.

 

Cleaning Solutions

 

  • Soap Solution – Made of Soap Flakes and Hot Water with a ratio of 1:40. Cool solution before use. Only use when explicitly recommended under manufacturer’s recommendation.
  • Washing Liquid Solution – Use a maximum of 1 tsp. of washing liquid per litre of water. When using concentrated liquids, a few drops would suffice.

 

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR Untreated/Soap-Treated Wood

 

General Maintenance

 

  • Wipe with a clean dry cloth.
  • Soiled surfaces should be wiped with a clean soft cloth firmly wrung in a soap solution (see cleaning solutions above).
  • NOTE – Soft soap should be used for soft woods (eg. Pine Wood) where it leaves a light grey patina, whereas on Oak and other woods, would result in a strong dark colour.

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

  • Wash the entire surface with a brush.
  • Wipe surface with a clean cloth firmly wrung out in a soap solution (see cleaning solutions above).
  • Stubborn grease marks may be removed with Benzine. Be cautious as this poses a fire risk.
  • If wood fibres rise due to the use of liquids, you may sand down with a sanding paper (grain grade of 180 or 220). Never use steel wool. Excessive sanding would also render surface less resistant to dirt.

 

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR Wax Treated Wood

 

General Maintenance

 

  • Wipe surface with a clean dry cloth. Never use a damp cloth.
  • Spilt liquids should be wiped up immediately.

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

  • Remove stains from liquids after they are completely dry.
  • Clean the surface with a dry clean cloth sprayed with white spirit. Be cautious as this poses a fire risk.
  • If wood fibres rise due to the use of liquids, you may sand down with a sanding paper (grain grade of 180 or 220). Never use steel wool.
  • Leave to dry.
  • Apply a thin coat of furniture wax suitable for the wood you’ve chosen.
  • Polish off with a pieces of sackcloth or hessian after 15 minutes
  • Wax-treated surfaces can also be brushed in the direction of the grain, using a clean brush with close-set bristles (eg. clean shoe brush).

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR Oil Treated Wood

 

General Maintenance

 

  • Wipe surface with a clean dry cloth.
  • For stained surface, wipe the whole surface with a clean cloth wrung out in a soap solution (see cleaning solutions above). Wipe dry with a clean dry cloth.

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

  • Thin layers of oil can be removed with a cloth sprayed with white spirit. Be cautious as this poses a fire risk.
  • Wipe off and apply a thin layer of the recommended oil according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • If necessary, surface can be gently sanded in the wet oil, in the direction of the wood grain, with a sanding paper (grain grade of 320 or 360). Alternatively, you may use fine ScotchBrite. Wipe off thoroughly with clean dry cloth. Be cautious as this poses a fire risk.
  • Cloths used may be disposed by soaking in water and wrapped in aluminum foil. Disposable should be done properly to avoid self-ignition.

 

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR Lacquered Wood

 

General Maintenance

 

  • Wipe surface with a clean dry cloth, or a cloth firmly wrung out in clean water. Wipe off immediately with a clean dry cloth.
  • For soiled surfaces, wipe with a clean cloth firmly wrung in a soap solution or washing liquid solution (see cleaning solutions above). Wipe off immediately with a clean dry cloth.

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

  • You may choose from a wide range of polishes for cleaning and gloss/matte maintenance specially made for the wood that you have chosen.
  • Avoid using polishes and maintenance products made for dark woods on light woods, and vice versa.
  • Sanding of lacquered wood should be left to an expert.
  • Scuffmarks can be easily removed with Benzine. Be cautious as this poses a fire risk.

 

 

Juul Product Care for Stainless Steel and Aluminium Furniture - Danish Design Singapore

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR STAINLESS STEEL & ALUMINIUM SURFACES

 

Common metals used in furniture production these days are aluminium and chromium-plated, lacquered or stainless steel. All of these surfaces are resistant to dirt, as well as liquids. Water, however, will still cause stain and rust.

 

General Maintenance

 

Wipe with a clean cloth firmly wrung out in water or washing liquid solution (see cleaning solutions above).

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

  • Aluminium, Chromium-plated and Stainless Steel can be wiped with a clean cloth sprayed with methylated spirits. Be cautious as this poses a fire risk.
  • Scuffmarks can be easily removed with Benzine. Be cautious as this poses a fire risk.

PRODUCT CARE FOR PLASTIC SURFACES

 

Furniture with plastic surfaces are usually made of melamine (eg. plastic laminates), various types of foils and surface coatings. Upholstery with plastic surfaces are usually made of PVC, polypropylene (PP) or polyurethane (PUR) which results in either a glossy, matte or leather structured appearance. 

 

General Maintenance

 

Wipe surface with a clean cloth firmly wrung out in hot water with washing liquid solution (see cleaning solutions above).

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

Melamine surfaces can be cleaned with a clean cloth sprayed with methylated spirits. Be cautious as this poses a fire risk.

PRODUCT CARE FOR MARBLE, GRANITE & SLATE SURFACES

 

Natural Stone is not resistant to acidic liquids like lemon juice, wine and vinegar. These liquids may cause stains that can be virtually impossible to remove. Polished stones and plastic-coated stones can also be damaged by abrasive cleaning agents.

 

General Maintenance

 

Wipe surface with a clean cloth wrung out in hot water with washing liquid solution (see cleaning solutions above).

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

Different types of stone surfaces requires various kinds of care. It is recommended to reach out to the manufacturer for a case by case assessment.

 

 

 

Juul Product Care for Fabric Furniture - Danish Design Singapore

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR FABRIC & TEXTILE SURFACES

 

Juul furnitures are made of natural fibres (eg. wool) and synthetic fibres or a mixture of both. By using different weaving methods, the result is a great diversity of wear resistance, colour fastness, shrinkage and dirt resistance and flammability properties.

 

General Maintenance

 

  • Vacuum your furniture regularly, at least once a week.
  • Avoid using solvents.
  • Non-Grease Stains – Remove by rubbing gently with a clean non-fluff cloth firmly wrung out in soap solution or washing liquid solution (see cleaning solutions above). Wipe the surface with a clean soft cloth wrung out in warm water. Do not rub or brush with a micro fibre material whilst wet.
  • Stain Removal – Stain removers may be used, after testing the reaction on the most invisible spot of the furniture. Rub gently towards the center of the stain using circular motions. Never use stain removers if there is latex-foam fillings under the upholstery.
  • Foam Cleaners – May be used if instructions provided are followed.
  • Covers – Remove for dry cleaning.

PRODUCT CARE FOR LEATHER SURFACES

 

Leather is a natural product, and hence naturally has marks that reflect the life events of the animal during its lifetime.

 

General Maintenance

 

  • Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight or heat source.
  • Avoid placing or dragging sharp objects on the surface.

 

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR Pigmented Leather

 

General Maintenance

 

  • Wipe surface with a clean soft cloth.
  • For soiled surfaces, wipe off with a clean soft cloth firmly wrung out in demineralised or cooled-down boiled water.

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

  • Gently wipe or rub the entire surface with a clean soft cloth firmly wrung out in soap solution (see cleaning solutions above).
  • For spilt liquids, wipe off immediately.
  • Avoid vacuuming to prevent scratching.
  • Leather cream or oil may be used when absolutely necessary. If surface is damaged or warn, leather cream or oil may cause blotching or discolouration.
  • Removal of spots not recommended.

 

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR Semi Aniline/Unprotected Leather

 

General Maintenance

 

  • Wipe surface with a clean soft cloth.
  • For soiled surfaces, wipe off with a clean soft cloth firmly wrung out in demineralised or cooled-down boiled water. Wipe over the entire surface quickly to avoid blotching.

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

  • Gently wipe or rub the entire surface with a clean soft cloth firmly wrung out in soap solution (see cleaning solutions above).
  • For spilt liquids, wipe off immediately.
  • Avoid vacuuming to prevent scratching.
  • Leather cream or oil may be used when absolutely necessary. If surface is damaged or warn, leather cream or oil may cause blotching or discolouration.
  • Removal of spots not recommended.

 

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR Untreated Split Leather

General Maintenance

 

Vacuum or brush regularly (eg. clothes brush).

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

  • Gently wipe or rub the entire surface with a clean soft cloth firmly wrung out in soap solution (see cleaning solutions above).
  • For spilt liquids, wipe off immediately.
  • Avoid vacuuming to prevent scratching.
  • Removal of spots not recommended.

 

 

 

Juul Product Care for Linoleum Furniture - Danish Design Singapore

 

 

PRODUCT CARE FOR LINOLEUM SURFACES

 

Linoleum is a product of oxidised linseed oil, mixed with fillings and dyes. For best maintenance, never apply oil or lacquer.

 

General Maintenance

 

  • Wipe surface with a clean dry cloth, or a cloth firmly wrung out in clean water. Wipe off immediately with a clean dry cloth.
  • For soiled surfaces, wipe with a clean cloth firmly wrung out in a soap solution (see cleaning solutions above), or with a cleaning agent specially made for cleaning linoleum. Wipe dry the surface immediately using a clean dry cloth.
  • For stains, it can usually be removed by careful wiping with a cloth sprayed with white spirit. Be cautious as this poses a fire risk.

 

Thorough Cleaning

 

  • You may use a linoleum cleaner and linoleum maintenance treatment agents for very dirty surfaces.
  • Surfaces may be treated with a thin layer of liquid wax. Wipe off thoroughly after 15 minutes. This treatment can be done a maximum of 1-2 times a year.
  • Avoid using aggressive cleaning agents.
