Ceramic is an extremely durable material which is ideal for outdoor use throughout the year. The colour shades may vary, and there may be roughness on the surface and table top edges, as ceramic is made from a natural material.
Ceramic Care and Cleaning
Ceramic table tops can be wiped and cleaned with a microfibre cloth. Most simple stains can be removed with a solution of water and gentle dishwashing detergent. More stubborn stains can be cleaned by dabbing the affected area with concentrated detergent. Always wipe the table afterwards with a clean cloth and remove any cleaning agent residue.
It is recommended to carefully clean the table top at least two to three times a year.
Storing of Tables with Ceramic Top
If a table with a ceramic top is housed in a climate with four seasons, it is recommended to cover the table top with a furniture cover during winter and autumn months. Do note that condensation may form under the furniture covers, which may cause mould and mildew. Hence, please ensure adequate space from the cover and the furniture piece to ensure proper circulation and to minimise condensation. If at all possible, it is recommended to place the table indoors during the colder months to shelter it from the elements.
In Singapore, the table and table-top can be used outdoors year-round.
Handling of Tables with Ceramic Top
It is essential to handle the ceramic table top carefully, and avoid putting pressure on the table edges. Due to the weight, ceramic table tops should always be handled by at least two people and moved in a vertical position.
Important note: Carrying a ceramic table top horizontally might cause cracks to form in the middle of the table top.
Made of durable and weather-resistant material that consists of mainly acrylic, the Cane-Line Hi-Core generally requires little maintenance.
Hi-Core Care and Maintenance
The table top can be easily cleaned with a microfibre cloth, and most simple stains can be removed with a solution of water and gentle dishwashing detergent. Stains that are more stubborn can be cleaned by dabbing the affected spots with concentrated detergent. It is recommended to carefully clean the table top at least two to three times a year.
If scratches do occur on the table top, these can be easily sanded down with fine sandpaper.
Storing of Tables with Hi-Core Table Top
If the table is placed in an outdoor space with a four-seasons climate, there are several ways to correctly store the table during colder months:
In Singapore, the table and table-top can be used outdoors year-round.
Important Note
When cleaning Hi-Core table tops, avoid abrasive materials such as steel wool, polish, or abrasive powder as this might cause scratches or damage to the table top.
A natural stone material, travertine features beautiful natural grains. Cane-Line’s range of tables with travertine table tops are polished until glossy and smooth. As it is a natural stone, minor hollows and colour variations may appear on the polished surface; and minor pieces may also fall from the stone’s porous surface over time.
Travertine Table Tops Care and Maintenance
Cane-Line has treated their travertine table tops with a sealant that makes it mostly resistant to moisture, water and soil.
Handling of Travertine Table Tops
Do handle tables with travertine tops with care, and avoid putting pressure on the edges of the table. Travertine tables should always be handled by at least two people due to the weight.
Cane-Line’s glass table tops are made of tempered glass with heights of 3mm, 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm.
Glass Care and Maintenance
Glass table tops generally require minimal maintenance. It is advisable to wipe the glass top after use with a damp microfibre cloth and mild detergent.
Placing items such as potted plants on the glass top may cause scratches or lime deposits – lime deposits can be easily removed with a solution of mild vinegar. Avoid pushing objects with rough bases across the glass as this might damage the surface.
Important Note
The top and underside of the glass are treated differently. The top part is frosted glass, and the underside is covered with coloured foil. Ensure to not scratch the underside of the glass to avoid damage of the coloured foil.
Handling of Tables with Glass Tops
Do handle tables with glass tops with care, and avoid putting pressure on the edges of the table. Glass table tops should always be handled by at least two people due to the material’s fragility.
Storing of Tables with Glass Tops
Tables with glass table tops can withstand the outdoor weather year-round. However, it is still advisable to place a furniture cover over it during cold, winter months, or when the item is not in use. Ensure adequate spacing between the cover and the furniture to avoid mould and mildew from occurring.
High pressure laminate table tops made of resin-impregnated paper that has been compressed under extremely high pressure that results in a material with a surface that’s scratch-resistant. High pressure laminate table tops generally require minimal maintenance.
High Pressure Laminate Care and Cleaning Advice
The table top can be easily cleaned with a moist microfibre cloth, and most stains can be removed quickly with water, and dishwashing detergent or a regular all-purpose cleaner. Stains that are more stubborn can be removed with a small amount of concentrated detergent.
Avoid using abrasive or aggressive cleaning substances such as scouring powder, steel wool, or polishes as these might cause irreparable damage to the high pressure laminate table top.
It is recommended that the table be thoroughly cleaned two to three times annually.
Storing of High Pressure Laminate Table Tops
In colder climates, here are a few ways to correctly store the table during winter months:
In Singapore, the table can be used outdoors year-round.
Cane-Line uses sustainable teak for their outdoor furniture collection, which is certified to support responsible forest management. Teak is an excellent and popular hardwood that is ideal for outdoor use thanks to its high oil content.
Important Note: Cane-Line’s teak furniture is delivered to the customer untreated. To retain its beautiful, original golden hue, we highly recommend treating it with a high-quality teak sealant. This is also to avoid oxidation, and from the teak turning a pale grey.
As teak is a natural product, small cracks due to drying and warping may occur.
Teak Care and Maintenance
To retain the teak’s beautiful golden shade, treat the furniture with teak sealant regularly, generally at least twice a year. This does depend on the climate and if the furniture is placed under shelter, such as a roof.
If the teakwood turns a silvery-grey or black on its surface, it should be cleaned with a teak cleaner. After cleaning and rinsing thoroughly with water, allow the teakwood to dry. Once it is completely dry, treat it with a teak sealant. If patina (oxidation) has occurred, it may be required to sand down the furniture, before cleaning and treating it.
Clean daily if possible, with a moist cloth and washing-up liquid; lukewarm cloths or a soft sponge are also acceptable. A soap flake solution may also be used to saturate the wood to minimise the occurrence of stains.
Cane-Line’s rope material is produced by woven polypropylene, and is UV-resistant. The rope offers outstanding sitting comfort and good support; and an ideal material for outdoor use.
To keep the material’s shape, avoid rough handling and pulling hard on the material.
Rope Care and Maintenance
As rope furniture are usually used outdoors over extended periods of time, it is recommended to regularly clean it with soapy water and a soft brush to remove any debris and soil, before these build up and are harder to remove.
Storing of Outdoor Rope Furniture
Rope furniture are durable and able withstand the outdoor weather year-round. However, it is still advisable to place a furniture cover over it when the item is not in use. Ensure adequate spacing between the cover and the furniture to avoid mould and mildew from occurring.
Cane-Line’s Weave is a fibre that is made from durable, solution-dyed polyethylene. This material is excellent for outdoor use and it’s able to withstand temperature variation and different climates, as well as moisture. The material is UV resistant and will retain its colour and shape for years; and requires minimal maintenance.
All Weave furniture Cane-Line are hand-woven, resulting in each piece being unique and each furniture varying slightly in colour.
Weave Care and Maintenance
As Weave furniture may be placed outdoors over extended periods of time, it is recommended that the furniture are regularly cleaned with soapy water and a soft brush. This is to avoid the buildup of debris and soil, which may then make it harder to remove. Weave furniture can also be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner, with its flow rate set at a moderate level.
In Singapore, Weave outdoor furniture can be used outdoors year-round.
Cane-Line’s range of outdoor umbrellas or parasols are fitted with an anodised aluminium pole. The electrochemical surface treatment of anodisation enables resistance to corrosion and scratches, product durability, and a more aesthetic, uniform surface. This process also expands the thickness of the aluminium’s naturally-occuring oxide layer, which essentially is its protective coating – this layer also ensures the surface’s appearance is preserved for years.
Anodised Aluminium Care and Maintenance
Anodised aluminium generally requires minimal maintenance. We still recommend cleaning and caring for the parasol pole to prevent discolouration or corrosion. The pole can be cleaned with a damp cloth and ordinary household soap. For more stubborn stains, an aqueous solution such as white alcohols may be used for cleaning. Please note that the cleaning substances should not contain any chlorine.
If you treat the anodised surface with spray products made specifically for anodized aluminium, or wax, this will enable a smooth and uniform surface, thus easing future cleaning.
Storing of Anodised Aluminium
Outdoor furniture with anodised aluminium can be used outdoors year-round. However, when not in use, it is recommended to cover the furniture with parasol cover, and to ensure ‘lifting’ the cover periodically to allow air circulation and removal of any condensation.
Stainless steel is a popular choice in outdoor furniture as it’s weather-resistant and highly durable.
Stainless Steel Care and Maintenance
Although stainless steel is very durable, rust film may still build up on its surface; which are the small metal particles that are red, and appear on the steel’s surface. To avoid rust film from occurring, it is recommended to seal the surface with a thin layer of oil that’s acid-free; and this should be applied before the furniture is used, right after unpackaging. The oil application should be repeated at least twice a year.
In coastal areas where furniture are more susceptible to rust, it is recommended to treat the furniture with oil on a more regular basis to retain its look.
It is also advisable to clean and wipe the furniture regularly with soapy water and a microfibre cloth.
Application of Oil
Apply the acid-free oil in a thin layer to the steel with a lint-free cloth. Should any rust occur due to inadequate maintenance, it can be removed with a regular, household stainless steel polish.
Storing of Stainless Steel Outdoor Furniture
Stainless steel outdoor furniture can be placed outdoors year-round in Singapore. When not in use, place a furniture cover over it. Allow for adequate spacing between the cover and the furniture to avoid mould and mildew from occurring.
Powder-coated aluminium is a popular choice for outdoor furniture in Singapore. It is an inherently anti-rust material, and the powder coating provides a protective layer. This material is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Care and Maintenance of Powder-Coated Aluminium
Aluminium outdoor furniture generally requires minimal maintenance. Ensure to keep the surface clean and dry. When vases, glasses or other objects are placed on the surface for a few days or more, ensure to wipe away any moisture that may accumulate under the objects.
If the powder-coated aluminium outdoor furniture is placed near the coast, it will require cleaning on a regular basis, and this can be done with fresh water and soap. Avoid rough cleaning or handling as these may cause dents and thus, damage to the powder coating.
Powder-coated aluminium outdoor furniture can be placed outdoors year-round in Singapore.
