Solid Wood Furniture Care
Wood is a natural material, which can be affected under different environments such as erratic humidity, direct sunlight, and normal wear and tear. Follow these helpful guidelines to properly maintain your wood furniture.
Avoid exposing Solid Wood to direct sunlight and heat like big windows without curtains or heat-emitting objects like radiators
Place mats/protectors under hot and damp objects to avoid direct contact with the wood furniture
Maintain consistent humidity of 30-60%
Oil-Treated Solid Wood – CARE INSTRUCTIONS
For day-to-day care, use a damp cloth without detergents or washing liquids to gently wipe your oil-treated Solid Wood Surface.
Oil-treat your furniture 4-6 times in their first year, and a minimum of 2 times a year thereafter.
Solid Wood surfaces can be sanded down to reduce roughness, scratches and stains, before applying oil-treatment.
Sandpaper or Sanding Sponge used for sanding should be of a grit of 280-320, and sand gently in the direction of the wood grain.
Wipe the Solid Wood surface with a damp cloth, and make sure that the surfaces are completely dry before applying the oil-treatment.
Apply the oil-treatment on the Solid Wood surfaces and underneath, using a dry cloth, in the direction of the wood grain. Never pour the oil directly onto the Solid Wood surface.
Let the oil-treatment penetrate through the surface for about 15 minutes, and wipe of the excess with a dry cloth.
Let the furniture dry for about 12 hours before using it again. It takes approximately 2 weeks for the oil to fully cure your Solid Wood Furniture.
Pour water over the oiling cloth and place them in an airtight plastic bag to avoid the risk of combustion.
Oil-treatment is a surface impregnation method and not a complete protective step for your solid wood furniture. The oil works as a protectant against drying, dirt and humidity.
Lacquered Solid Wood – CARE INSTRUCTIONS
For day-to-day care, use a damp cloth without detergents or washing liquids to gently wipe your Lacquered Solid Wood Surface
If your Lacquered Solid Wood Furniture seems dull or worn, an oil-treatment can be applied. However, please always Danish Design’s service team first.
Soap-Treated Solid Wood – CARE INSTRUCTIONS
For day-to-day care, use a damp cloth without detergents or washing liquids to gently wipe your Soap-treated Solid Wood Surface.
Soap-treat your furniture once a week in the first 4-6 weeks, and 6-8 times a year thereafter.
Solid Wood surfaces can be sanded down to reduce roughness, scratches and stains, before applying oil-treatment.
Sandpaper or Sanding Sponge used for sanding should be of a grit of 280-320, and sand gently in the direction of the wood grain.
Wipe the Solid Wood surface with a damp cloth, and make sure that the surfaces are completely dry before applying the soap-treatment.
Add 50ml of soap flakes into 1L of boiling water, allowing the soap mixture to cool to a lukewarm temperature. It is imperative that the temperature is lukewarm to prevent the darkening of your Solid Wood furniture.
Apply the soap mixture on the Solid Wood surfaces and underneath, using a cloth, in the direction of the wood grain. Never pour the oil directly onto the Solid Wood surface.
Let the soap mixture penetrate through the surface for about 5 minutes, and wipe of the excess with a dry cloth.
Let the furniture dry for about 1 hour before sanding it gently to remove possible rising fibres or application strokes
Soap-treatment is a surface impregnation method and not a complete protective step for your solid wood furniture. The soap works as a protectant against drying, dirt and humidity.
Marble Furniture Care
Marble can be categorised into two finishes – Honed Marble and Polished Marble. Honed Marble has been sanded to give it its signature matte and smooth look, whilst Polished Marble is shinier in its surface. Since Marble is a natural material, each marble table top is 100% unique in its design, containing different characteristics of watermarks, graining and shadows. These are all natural contents of Marble and are not considered defects in the product.
For day-to-day care, use a damp cloth to gently wipe your Marble surfaces, and wipe off any excess moisture with a dry cloth.
Use your stone-sealer for a stone-sealing treatment on your Marble furniture about once in every 2 years for added protection against moisture.
Please take note:
All kinds of acidic liquids like vinegar, soda, lemon, juices etc. are damaging to Marble and should therefore never be used on Marble.
All kinds of liquid should be wiped off promptly to avoid discoloration and permanent marks.
Avoid placing damp objects on your Marble Furniture
Avoid placing or dragging hard or sharp objects directly on your Marble Furniture
