Wood is a natural material which has and will continue to develop and mature its own unique grains.

General Care & Maintenance

– Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight or heat source.

– Avoid placing furniture in a room with erratic humidity.

Oil Treated Wood – CARE INFORMATION

Oil Treated Wood are resistant to dust, water, and light scratches and marks. This type of wood will develop a natural patina which only becomes more beautiful and unique with time. Fredericia’s wood furniture are treated with clear wax oil.

General Care & Maintenance

  • Daily Cleaning – Wipe surface with a clean dry cloth. Avoid using wet cloths whenever possible.
  • Stain Removal – Use a clean soft cloth firmly wrung in clean water and wipe in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain. Wipe immediately after with a clean dry cloth.
  • Dirt Removal – Use a clean soft cloth firmly wrung in clean water (5L) mixed with soap flakes (25ml), or any cleaning agent specifically for oil treated wood surfaces. Once cleaned, retreat the surface with oil (instructions below).
  • Avoid using pure linseed oil, chemicals, scouring pads, wire wool or similar products.

Oil Treatment

  • Oil Treatments should be performed 1-2 times a year to maintain the colour and glow of the wood surface, and only if necessary (eg. surface looks dry or dull, or visibly stained).
  • Fredericia recommends using Leather Master Wood Wax Oil.
  • Wipe down the entire surface with a soft cloth firmly wrung in lukewarm water. You may add soap flakes to the water to remove stubborn stains.
  • Let the surface dry off for at least 1 hour.
  • If grains ‘rise’, gently sand the surface with a sandpaper of 240 grit, in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain. Wipe away excess dust with a dry soft cloth.
  • Pour a little oil onto a clean soft sponge and apply evenly to the entire surface, in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain. Ensure that all wood surfaces are covered, including the edges and underneath the furniture.
  • Allow the wood to absorb the oil for approximately 20 minutes. Remove any excess oil by wiping off with a clean dry lint-free cloth in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain.
  • Let wood furniture dry for at least 24 hours before use.
  • Store and dispose the cloth used during oil-treatment carefully to avoid self-ignition. You may dispose or storing the oiled cloths in a closed plastic or metal container with some water.

Soap Treated & Untreated Wood – CARE INFORMATION

Soap Treated Wood is known for its extraordinarily beautiful patina. The wood will become increasingly resistant to dirt.

General Care & Maintenance

  • Daily Cleaning – Use a clean soft cloth firmly wrung in lukewarm water (3L) mixed with soap flakes (25ml) and wipe the surface.

Soap Treatment

  • Soap Treatment may be performed 1-2 times a year.
  • Remove any stains by scrubbing them with a soft sponge dipped in soapy water and wipe in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain.
  • Use only Natural/White soap flakes. Never use Brown soap flakes, soap flakes containing bleach or perfume, washing-up liquid, yellow soap, linseed oil, or detergents containing iron, or any products made of metals (steel or iron) that will cause permanent black stains.
  • Mix soap flakes (25ml) in clean boiled water cooled to a room temperature (1L).
  • Dip a clean soft sponge in the soap solution and wipe the entire surface in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain.
  • Wipe any excess soapy water off the entire surface with dry soft cloth.
  • Allow the wood surface to dry for approximately 2 hours before use.
  • Alternatively, you may use Fredericia’s recommended Leather Master Natural Soap Protector. Follow the instructions carefully on the product label.
  • If grains ‘rise’, you may gently sand the surface with a sandpaper of 240 grit in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain. Wipe off any excess dust with a dry soft cloth.
  • Keep in mind that excessive use of soap flakes will destroy the wood fibre and its natural colour.

Lacquered & Painted Wood

Lacquered surfaces are easy to clean and are highly resistant to dust and dirt. They are, however, difficult to restore once ruined.

General Care & Maintenance

  • Daily Cleaning – Wipe the surface with a clean dry cloth. You may use dedicated cleaning agents to remove stains, and wipe in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain.
  • Wash Down – Use a soft cloth firmly wrung in a lukewarm water mixed with an all purpose cleaning agent. Always choose a mild cleaning agent without any sanding particles.
  • Avoid using too much water when cleaning your furniture. Use only damp cloth if needed.
  • Never use abrasive detergents, wire wool or polish, and agents containing alcohol.
  • Avoid placing vases or decorative objects on the surface to prevent stains and discolouration.

Lacquer Care

  • Fresh Lacquer may be used to repair tiny cracks in coloured, lacquered surfaces. Use a matte lacquer with a light white pigmentation. You may obtain the original colour lacquer from Fredericia by referring to the ‘Item No’ found underneath the furniture when referencing the colour.
  • Discolouration cannot be rectified with cleaning agents and will need to be restored by a professional.
