With the right amount of care and maintenance, you can extend the life of your designer furniture. Please note that House of Finn Juhl’s product warranty is only valid when the proper care and maintenance have been adhered to as per the instruction guide.

Product Care for Fabric / Textile Surfaces

 

House of Finn Juhl’s upholstery are made of Wool, Cotton, Polyster, Nylon, or a mix of all. The textiles used are of the highest quality, easy to maintain and durable.

 

General Care & Maintenance

 

  • Vacuum upholstery with a clean mouthpiece at least once a week. For delicate textiles, a soft mouthpiece may be used with low suction level.
  • For stain removal, use a firmly wrung cloth soaked in clean boiled water that has been cooled down to a lukewarm temperature.
  • Avoid using harsh or chemical cleaning agents.
  • Avoid rubbing vigorously on stains to prevent damage of fabric and colour.
  • For difficult stains, please contact a professional furniture dry-cleaning service.
  • Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight or close to heat sources.

Product Care for Leather Surfaces

 

Leather is a distinctive natural material that exudes exclusivity and ages with grace. For that reason, House of Finn Juhl carefully selects and uses hides from cows and bulls with the utmost respect when upholstery. Each hide is unique to the animal, representing to its life events.

 

General Care & Maintenance

 

  • Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight or heat source.
  • Avoid contact with sharp objects.
  • Avoid using harsh or chemical cleaning agents.
  • Avoid contact with non-colourfast clothing such as jeans as it may cause permanent discolouration on pure natural leather.

 

 

Product Care for Vegetal Leather – Untreated

 

Detailed Care & Maintenance

 

  • Daily Cleaning – Keep clean by wiping off the surface with a soft dry cloth. Stains on leather will appear and should be accepted as it will even out over time as part of the natural patina.
  • Severe Damage Stains – Soak the entire leather surface moderately with mineral water or clean boiled water that has been cooled to a lukewarm temperature. Leave to dry completely and stain will even out with time.
  • Periodic Maintenance – Use pure natural uncoloured leather grease or wax (made of bees wax) specially made for treating uncoloured natural leather. Treat the leather according to the instructions on the product. Leather grease or wax is used as a preventative measure before using the furniture. This provides moisture which enhances the tanning process.
  • Thorough cleaning with Soap Treatment – Use special soap flakes “Cavo-Ox” for gentle washing. Clean the leather according to the instructions on the product.

 

 

Product Care for Aniline Leather – No Coating

  • Daily Cleaning – Keep clean by wiping off the surface with a soft dry cloth. Stains on leather will appear and should be accepted as it will even out over time as part of the natural patina.
  • Liquid Spills – Wipe off immediately with a dry soft cloth.
  • Light Stains – Use a soft wrung cloth soaked in clean boiled water that has been cooled down to a lukewarm temperature.
  • Periodic Maintenance – Use a leather cleanser, cream or wax (made of bees wax) specially made for Aniline Leather. Treat the leather according to the instructions on the product.

 

 

Product Care for Aniline Leather – Light Coating

  • Daily Cleaning – Keep clean by using a vacuum with a soft mouthpiece. You may also try wiping off the surface with a soft dry cloth.

Product Care for Nubuck

 

Detailed Care & Maintenance

 

  • Daily Cleaning – Keep clean by using a vacuum with a soft mouthpiece, at a low suction level. Use a dry soft brush specially made for Nubuck Leather to help fibres rise and prserve its soft surface.
  • Light Stains – Leave the stains to be absorbed and become part of the patina as rubbing on stains and applying water will damage the surface of a Nubuck Leather.

 

 

Product Care for Protected Leather

  • Daily Cleaning – Keep clean by using a vacuum with a soft mouthpiece. You may also try wiping off the surface with a firmly wrung soft cloth soaked in clean boiled water that has been cooled down to a lukewarm temperature.
  • Light Stains – Use a soft wrung cloth soaked in clean boiled water that has been cooled down to a lukewarm temperature. If the surface is particularly dirty, soap flakes can be added into the water. Dry off the entire surface by wiping with a soft dry cloth.

Product Care for Wood Surfaces

 

It is important to be aware that no two trees are alike and the living material is continually changing. The colour and the texture will change in appearance over time as it becomes affected by the environment in which it is placed. In order to maintain the look, we advise you to read our maintenance and care guide.

 

General Care & Maintenance

 

  • Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight or heat source.
  • Avoid placing furniture in spaces with fluctuating humidity.
  • Keep surface clean with a dry soft cloth.
  • Avoid placing decorative objects or vases in the same place to prevent discolouration.

 

 

Product Care for Solid Wood

 

Cleaning Instructions

 

  • Light Stains – Use a damp soft cloth firmly wrung in clean boiled water that has been cooled down to a lukewarm temperature.
  • Dirt Removal – Use a damp soft cloth firmly wrung in clean boiled water mixed with soap flakes, that has been cooled down to a lukewarm temperature.
  • Stubborn Stain/Dirt – Gently sand the surface with extra fine sandpaper (min. 240 grits) in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain. Wipe off sanding dust with a dry soft cloth.
  • Liquid Spills – Wipe off immediately. Avoid using harsh or chemical cleaning agents, and sharp or rough cleaning tools.

 

 

Oil-Treatment Instructions

 

  • When wood surface looks dry, this treatment may be performed to a maximum of 1-2 times per year.
  • Wipe surface clean with a damp soft cloth firmly wrung in clean boiled water that has been cooled down to a lukewarm temperature. Soap flakes may be added to remove stains.
  • Leave surface to dry completely before applying oil. Always use the same type of oil that the wood furniture has been treated with.
  • Pour a small amount of oil onto a clean soft sponge or cloth, and apply the oil gently to the entire wood surface, in the longitudinal direction of the wood grain.
  • Allow the wood surface to absorb the oil for approximately 15 minutes.
  • Remove excess oil by wiping the wood surface with a clean soft cloth.
  • Leave furniture to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before using the furniture again.
  • Carefully store or dispose the sponge or cloth used for oil application, as it can self-ignite. Store in an airtight container with a small amount of water.

Product Care for Sheepskin

 

Sheepskin is a high quality natural product. In order to preserve its natural look and extend its lifee, regular cleaning is necessary.

 

General Care & Maintenance

 

  • Vacuum & Air the furniture regularly to prevent the wool from going flat.
  • Stains should be soaked in water immediately.
  • Clean with a soft sponge wrung in lukewarm water mixed with mild soap made specially for wool.
  • Avoid using harsh or chemical cleaning agents.
  • Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight.

Product Care for Linoleum Surfaces

 

Linoleum is an exceptional natural material made from heated linseed oil, powdered cork, and resin. This results in a pleasant acoustic, tactile, and smooth matte surface. Linoleum is incredibly durable, antistatic and resistant to dirt and dust.

 

General Care & Maintenance

 

  • Regularly clean your Linoleum furniture by using a damp microfibre cloth, firmly wrung in clean boiled water that has been cooled down to a lukewarm temperature. Dry off after with a clean dry microfibre cloth. Avoid using excessive amounts of water.
  • When necessary, treat surface with Monel Linoleum Care dissolved in clean water with a ratio of 1:20.
  • Avoid placing sharp objects on the surface.
  • Avoid sanding or repairing as scratches will heal themselves over time, to some extent.
