Fascinated and inspired by the space age, Bill Curry developed the Stemlite Pendant Lamp which forms a part of his iconic Stemlite Collection. The creation was developed to inspire a new norm of lighting – a single piece that combines bulb and shade into one organic space.
A bold ‘LA spacepop’ form, the Stemlite Pendant Lamp is indeed fit for tomorrow’s world. Contrasted with colourful cast-iron bases with transparent glass tops, the Stemlite Pendant Lamp has a simple rotary dimmer switch, giving the user intuitive control over the light intensity. The new pendant has been developed by simply flipping the original design upside-down.

From his unique Los Angeles vantage point at the meeting point of art, design and engineering, during an era defined by the space race, pop culture and a new forward-looking optimism, he translated the wonder and delight he saw around him into simple yet intelligent ideas with clear visual narratives. Credited with developing the first ‘total look’ lamp forms – eliminating the base-bulb shade concept and instead exploiting the bare bulb in a playful, self contained unit, Curry was recognized as California’s leading designers.
