SWEDEN (1917-2006)

Nils Strinning was a Swedish architect in the mid-twentieth century who played a key role in building the foundation of Scandinavian Design. Strinning studied architecture in Stockholm and soon after designed the world-known String shelf system that came to be synonymous with his name.

The String was introduced in 1949 and has since received over 15 international awards. Despite being launched more than 60 years ago, the String System remains as a modern piece of modular shelving furniture. This idea of having a flexible shelving system came from a need as owners’ book collections increased. Currently, the String legacy lives on with its company headquarters based in Malmö and fresh product lines have been added to widen the storage possibilities in one’s home.
